It is claimed that the leichenkellers at Birkenau were converted into gaschambers which were subterranean.
The victims entered the changing rooms going down stairs 3000 at a time, undressed, went through a single door at the end and made a right hand turn through another single door to enter the gaskammer. They all lined up like disciplined soldiers, the doors closed and Cyanide infused pellets were thrown in.
People entering the chambers – first women with children, followed by men – were led to the opposite wall, behind a cordon of SS-men standing in front of it. As the gas chamber filled up, the latter withdrew towards the door. In this way 3000 people would be crammed into a gas chamber with a floor space of 210 square meters – 30 meters long by 7 meters wide and 2.4 meters high.
The SS disinfector opened a tin of Zyklon B and threw its contents into a special separating cone thanks to which the lumps of diatomite distributed themselves evenly inside the core of the mesh pillar, which hastened the process of gassing.
From 6 to 12 kilograms of gas would be introduced into the gas chamber at a time- in the years 1942-1943 19.652.69 kilograms of Zyklon B were delivered to Auschwitz by the firm Tesch und Stabenow.
And when the doors were opened?
"They fell out. People fell out like blocks of stone, like rocks falling out of a truck. But near the Zyklon B gas, there was a void. There was no one where the gas crystals went in – An empty space. Probably the victims realised that the gas worked strongest there. The people were battered – they struggled and fought in the darkness. They were covered in excrement, in blood, from ears and noses."
- Birkenau is built on a swamp, with the water table just 20cm below the surface. Most of Birkenau is flat with minor modulations of the Earths surface
- The Leichenkellers were below the water table so there was no natural drainage to the holding ponds which were higher than the floors of the cellars.
1. Crematorium II 235.366m
2. Leichenkeller floor 232.956m
4. Settling Basin 233.710m who.org
This means the Leichenkeller floor was 0.75m below the settling tank and drainage was not possible.
- 3000 naked people produce a huge amount of excrement upon death, though not all defecate.
Just like those rare occasions where you laughed so hard you peed in your pants, you will pee and poop in the spontaneous relaxation of your muscles following death. In fact, it’s not just the muscles but also the gas produced inside your body following death that will cause peeing and pooping. There’s really not much to say about this, right? Death is simply not pretty, nor was it meant to be.
pee and poo
Suppose on average each person produced .25 kg of excrement, 3,000 produce about 750kg that must be removed, which means there must be an efficient drainage system. The amount of excrement will vary but it will still be considerable enough to be removed. How this effluent was efficiently removed is the question?
Birkenau Sewage holding tank 70cm above leichenkeller floor
To discuss how the Leichenkellers could be used as a place of mass execution when the drainage system is beneath the sewage holding tanks considering the huge amount of effluent that needed to be drained in a timely fashion before the next gassing scenario.
