The monument to the victims of the German fascists at Rostov-on-Don. Kinda reminds me of the quennelle.
A 2013 documentary staring Dr. Sturdy Colls and David Cesarani features Soviet film footage recently discovered by Dr. Jeremy Hicks that was reputedly shot in 1943 and shows a very public unearthing of a mass grave in a ravine called Zmiyevskaya Balka ("Snakes Valley", or "Snake Pit", or "the Ravine of the Snakes," apparently) in Rostov-on-Don, which, the documentary claims, contained the bodies of "12,000 Jews".In August 1942 Nazi German troops murdered at least 27,000 people at Zmiyevskaya Balka, regarded as the worst Holocaust atrocity in Russia.
According to the Yad Vashem Holocaust Centre in Israel, 15,000-16,000 Jews were murdered by the Nazis in Rostov-on-Don from August 1942 to February 1943.
You can watch the footage from the 24 minute mark on the video. Don't let your lying eyes try to tell you they can only see a dozen-ish corpses, nor that the corpses and grave bare hallmarks of a NKVD execution.
Roberto Muehlenkamp wrote of Rostov-on-Don in 2011:
Roberto states that Sk 10a was relived by Einsatzkommando 6 of Einsatzgruppe C sometime after August 11, 1942, who continued to kill any Jews they could lay their hands on. The Germans occupied Rostov until February 14, 1943, but Roberto offers no further estimates for the number they managed to find and then shoot, or put in their gas van. Most of the city’s about 50,000 Jews had been evacuated by the Soviets following the brief first German occupation, but about 2,000 had remained behind – mainly elderly and sick persons as well as women and children who could not or had not wanted to be evacuated. The Jews were called upon to gather at a specified place on 11 August 1942, ostensibly in order to be moved to a part of the city where they would not be exposed to acts of violence from the non-Jewish population. Actually they were taken to a place called the ravine of the snakes, where they had to deliver their valuables and undress before being shot and dumped into pre-dug sand pits. The killing had not ended by the evening of 11 August, and on the next day a gas van was brought to help finish the job. [...] The total number of persons killed by Sk 10a [Sonderkommando (Sk) 10a of Einsatzgruppe D ] in Rostov is unknown but probably exceeded the estimated 2,000 Jewish inhabitants.

Perhaps the reason for Roberto's drastic reduction of the number killed and buried in Snakes Ravine is because he knows full-well that the folks of Action 1005 are not claimed to have ever visited Rostov to clean up the mess.
Roberto wouldn't have known about the Jeremy Hicks-discovered footage when he wrote his article, although his article is essentially about Soviet atrocity footage. The video stills Roberto uses of Rostov are from the footage shot by Arkadii Levitan in December 1941 (Hicks, First Films of the Holocaust, p.49f), after the Soviets recaptured the city and ended the first German occupation (November 21 to 29, 1941). although he doesn't tell his readers that, he allows them to believe the footage could have been shot after the second and far longer German occupation (July 1942 to February 1943). But I've digressed.
It's undeniable that the Soviets did not exhume and rebury c.27,000 corpses based on the footage they shot of doing both to a relatively tiny number of corpses in 1943. Therefore Rostov still has the largest un-Blobeled, unearthed, and undocumented mass grave of the Holocaust, even though its precise location is known. And due to the fact that over 10,000 of the alleged victims buried there are gentiles, the oft invoked but never-ever cited Talmudic law about Jewish graves, can hardly be claimed as an excuse not to exhume this enormous mass grave.
